The British government has postponed to January 2024 the start of Brexit-related border controls on food and fresh food products from the European Union.
The UK has postponed inspections several times since it withdrew from the EU customs union and single market in January 2021, but British exports have been subject to EU product controls.
The UK was due to introduce the new import controls in a phased manner over a period of 12 months from October 31 this year. The UK withdrew from the EU on January 31, 2020, after a referendum in favor of Brexit in 2016.
